What is this site?
This is an unofficial reference for WBJEE engineering counselling cutoffs in West Bengal. All data comes from the official Opening-Closing Rank (ORCR) reports published by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) on the admissions.nic.in counselling portal. We are not affiliated with WBJEEB; treat this site as a research aid and verify final figures with the board.
How do I read the opening and closing ranks?
For each college-branch-category-quota combination, the opening rank is the best (smallest) rank allotted a seat and the closing rank is the last (largest) rank allotted in that round. If your WBJEE rank is numerically smaller than or equal to the closing rank, someone with your rank secured that seat that year. The year-level figure we show is the closing rank of the final round; per-round opening and closing ranks are kept in the round-wise data.
What do the category codes mean?
OPEN is the unreserved category; SC is Scheduled Caste; ST is Scheduled Tribe; OBC-A and OBC-B are West Bengal's two OBC sub-groups (more backward and backward, respectively); EWS is Economically Weaker Section (appearing from 2024); TFW is Tuition Fee Waiver. Codes ending in PWD (like OPEN_PWD, SC_PWD) are the Persons with Disabilities sub-quota within that category.
What is the Home State vs All India distinction?
Seats are split between Home State (HS) for candidates who qualify as West Bengal domicile and All India (AI) for everyone else. The two pools have separate opening and closing ranks, and HS cutoffs usually close at more relaxed ranks than AI for the same seat. Check which pool you belong to before comparing yourself to a cutoff.
What are WBJEE seats vs JEE-Main seats?
Some institutes in the WBJEEB counselling fill a portion of seats through JEE Main ranks instead of WBJEE ranks. Our data tags each cutoff row with its seat family, so a WBJEE-seat closing rank is a WBJEE rank and a JEE-Main-seat closing rank is a JEE Main rank. Never compare your WBJEE rank against a JEE-Main-seat cutoff or vice versa.
What is TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver)?
TFW is a supernumerary scheme where a small number of seats per branch carry a tuition fee waiver for eligible candidates (family income below the notified limit). TFW closing ranks are usually much tighter than the same branch's OPEN rank because there are very few seats. If you hold a TFW-eligible income certificate, compare against the TFW column too.
How many counselling rounds does WBJEE have, and do cutoffs move?
WBJEEB typically runs two to three allotment rounds (plus mop-up conducted separately). Closing ranks generally relax in later rounds as candidates withdraw for IITs, NITs or private options, though top branches at Jadavpur University or Kalyani Government Engineering College may barely move. Our round-wise files let you compare Round 1 against later rounds for the same seat.
Which years does this site cover?
We cover 2021 through 2026 from the WBJEEB ORCR reports on admissions.nic.in. Note that 2026 is the live season and currently reflects Round 1 only, so its numbers are partial and will change as later rounds complete. Years before 2021 are not on this counselling platform and are not in our dataset.
Why did OBC-A and OBC-B disappear in 2026?
In the 2026 ORCR data the board reports a single combined OBC category (with OBC_PWD) instead of the earlier OBC-A and OBC-B split, following changes in the state's OBC reservation framework. When comparing 2026 cutoffs with earlier years, remember that OBC in 2026 is not directly comparable to OBC-A or OBC-B alone. Always check WBJEEB's current-year notification for the category structure that applies to you.
Are there known gaps or quirks in the data?
A few. WBJEEB's ORCR publishes ranks only, so there are no marks-based cutoffs. EWS appears only from 2024, and the count of participating colleges varies by year (roughly 84 to 119) as institutes join or leave the central counselling. Also, the ORCR reports carry no official college codes, so our internal college identifiers are name-based; college names are the reliable key.
Can I use last year's closing rank to predict this year?
Use it as a guide with margin. Cutoffs shift with seat matrix changes, fee revisions, and demand swings toward CSE/AI branches, and a college's closing rank can move by thousands between years in lower-demand branches. Look at the 2021-2025 trend for your target seat and fill options across a comfortable rank range.
A category cell is blank for my target college. What does that mean?
It means no seat was allotted in that category-quota combination in that round, either because no seat existed there or no eligible candidate took it. It does not mean you cannot get that college; you may still qualify through the OPEN column, since reserved-category candidates are considered for OPEN seats on merit as well.
Does this cover private universities and management quota?
We cover only seats filled through the official WBJEEB centralised counselling as published in the ORCR reports. Direct or management-quota admissions at private institutes, and seats filled through other exams outside this counselling, are not in the data.
How should I verify a cutoff before acting on it?
Cross-check the exact college-branch-category-quota figure in the official ORCR report on the WBJEEB counselling portal (admissions.nic.in) for that year and round. WBJEEB sometimes revises schedules and seat matrices mid-season, especially in the live year. This site aims to be accurate but is unofficial, so the board's own documents always take precedence.
